wolfia rootless
Wolffia rootless, scientific name Wolffia arrhiza. Widespread on almost all continents from America to Australia, found in tropical and temperate climatic zones. Grows in nutrient-rich stagnant waters such as ditches, ponds and lakes. It often grows together with Duckweed, but due to its size it is practically invisible.
It is considered the smallest flowering plant in the world. Outwardly, it is a rounded rootless green plate about 1 mm in diameter. They float on the surface of the water, forming dense clusters. There are 11 very similar Wolfii, which can only be distinguished by experts.
It is absolutely undemanding to the environment, capable of growing in a wide range of temperatures (even around zero degrees) and values of hydrochemical parameters, and is not sensitive to light. It has no ornamental value in the aquarium hobby, and is often regarded as a weed that is difficult to get rid of, especially in large tanks. However, in some cases it can serve as a source of plant food for some fish species.
