Why Dogs Don’t Like Drunk People
Most dog owners would probably agree that their pets can’t stand drunk people. Some simply shy away from such personalities, while others are ready to eat without chewing, just give them the opportunity. Why don’t dogs like drunk people?

Alas, no serious studies have been conducted on this topic, so we can only assume and put forward different hypotheses – of varying degrees of probability.
The first hypothesis about why dogs do not like drunks: Dogs don’t like the smell of alcohol. Indeed, in nature, relatives of dogs most often bypass fermentation products. And, for example, grapes – one of the products that serve as the basis for alcoholic beverages – are toxic to dogs: it can cause acute kidney failure. Not to mention alcohol – giving it to dogs is strongly discouraged. True, there are owners who, for the sake of fun, accustom dogs to alcohol and even form an addiction in those dogs, but the consequences for the health of animals are sad.
In most cases, dogs do not like the smell of alcohol. But the sense of smell in these animals is one of the main sense organs. And even if we wince at the smell of fumes, then for dogs it is probably absolutely monstrous.
In addition, the use of alcohol also changes the smell of a person’s body, since under the influence of “taken on the chest”, the work of the excretory system changes. And this smell can also be extremely unpleasant for dogs.
So the version that the smell of alcohol is unbearable for dogs, and therefore they try to stay away from its source (or drive this source away from themselves), is quite viable.
But this version is not the only one.
According to the second version, a drunk person moves differently, his coordination of movements is disturbed. And for a dog, such a creature becomes completely unpredictable – after all, it is even difficult to predict the trajectory of its movement, not to mention what it can do in the next moment. And everything unpredictable causes in dogs, at least, alertness, and even fear. And where there is fear, there is aggression, especially if the dog cannot stay away from a drunk person (for example, the leash limits it).
In addition, a drunk person who can hardly stand on his feet becomes vulnerable. A dog is a hunter by nature, and one that chooses the weakest prey from the herd – it’s not for nothing that the ancestors of dogs, wolves, are considered “forest orderlies”. And what is this creature that drives from side to side? Definitely easy prey! And attacking him is not so scary. it third version.
Fourth hypothesis associated with negative experiences. Sometimes there is an unpleasant experience of a dog, when in the past drunken people offended him or tried to harm his owner. And all drunk people since then are perceived as enemies who need to be neutralized in advance.

In addition, drunk people sometimes become too sociable and try to make acquaintance with dogs, even if the latter are completely unwilling to do so. This is also not the life experience that our pets want to have. it fifth version.
Be that as it may, the fact that dogs do not like drunks must be taken into account. If you are a dog owner, it is better to bypass drunks (especially companies) by the side. And lovers of strong drinks should refrain from communicating with dogs, especially strangers.
