Why do dogs eat grass?
Your dog is a descendant of a wolf, an excellent hunter. You are giving him the best quality food, so why is your dog eating grass?
No one can say for sure why this is happening. Veterinary nutritionists are confident that this is normal behavior and is not a cause for concern.
“On the pasture…”
There are two types of this behavior. First, your dog simply eats grass without suffering from any disease.
Some veterinarians suggest that dogs eat grass to make up for certain nutrient deficiencies, but even dogs that receive a balanced diet eat grass. Maybe they just like the taste of it?! So even if you feed your dog well, he may still crave something green!
instinctive behavior
The second type of this behavior is when the dog eats grass and then burps it up. It is believed that this is an instinctive attempt to induce vomiting after the dog has eaten something that made her sick.
In this case, dogs usually swallow the grass as quickly as possible, almost without chewing it. It is believed that long unchewed stems of grass tickle the throat and cause a gag reflex.
If your dog eats grass and then vomits and then feels fine, there may be something bothering him. If the dog continues to vomit and the grass he eats does not come out, or the dog continues to eat grass, you should contact your veterinarian.
Is it safe?
In any scenario, carefully monitor what kind of grass the dog eats. Don’t let her eat anything that has been treated with pesticides or fertilizers. Most gardening products have labels on their packaging that say they are safe for pets.
