What to consider before you go camping with your dog?
First of all, you need to know for sure that your dog is able to cover the required distance. So consider the age of the dog and its physical form, as well as the breed. For example, for brachycephalic dogs (dogs with a short muzzle), a long hike can be not only a burden, but also a health hazard.
Make sure your dog is vaccinated and treated for parasites, including ticks.
Things you need when hiking with your dog
- Durable harness. Even if you usually wear a collar on your dog, it is better to prepare a harness for a hike. Of course, the harness must be properly selected and fitted to the dog. It is better if it is bright and with reflective elements.
- Durable leash.
- Token with your phone number. Also, it does not hurt to microchip the dog in advance.
- Sufficient food and water. The dog’s need for water depends on the intensity of movement and air temperature. It is advisable to offer water to the dog every 15 to 30 minutes.
- A first aid kit for yourself and your dog. It is worth putting bandages, cotton pads, syringes, scissors, a tourniquet, a thermometer, a band-aid, antiseptics, activated carbon, wet wipes, a cold pack, and allergy products into the first-aid kit.
