What to do in the first place if the dog is “badly” behaving?
Sometimes owners complain that the dog is “badly” behaving. They seem to be doing their best to fix the situation – and to no avail, it does not get better (or even the situation worsens). What to do in the first place if the dog is “badly” behaving?
Of course, education and / or behavior correction can prevent or correct many problems. However, if the dog has started misbehaving and you don’t know the reason, the first thing to consider is whether the dog is in good health. For example, irritation and aggression, as well as unwillingness to follow certain commands, are often associated with physical discomfort (and even severe pain), endless puddles in the house – with cystitis, swallowing inedible objects – with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, etc. , etc.
The fact is that if the problem has a physiological cause, that is, it is related to a state of health, no behavior correction and training will give the desired result. They can, for example, momentarily show aggression, but they will not eliminate the cause of discomfort, which means that a dog that is not treated, but “educated” will get worse, and in the long term the problem will only get worse. You can poke a dog with its nose into a puddle and it will begin to hide, but no means will make it endure longer than it is physically able to.
Therefore, if you notice that the dog is “weird” or “badly” behaving, first of all it is worth consulting with a veterinarian. And if you find a disease, treat it. Then, it is quite possible that behavioral correction will be unnecessary.
