What do cats do when their owners are away?
Every cat owner will tell you that these animals don’t like it when their people leave home. Cats are good at expressing their emotions, no matter whose things they spoil: theirs or yours!
They “speak out” very clearly, so you can’t go wrong if your cat decides to show his displeasure at being left alone at home. You will see signs of pet discontent throughout the home. It can be torn curtains or the remains of your favorite pair of shoes.
Listed below are five cat antics that you may find the consequences of when you return home.

1. Toilet paper to shreds.
This is a classic case. In every house where there is a cat, the toilet paper has been torn at least once. According to the PetMD (Pet Health and Pet Nutrition Information) portal, cats like to scratch something, it’s an instinctive action. Pets also like to play, so toilet paper suits them in two ways at once. When a cat sees toilet paper, especially a brand new roll, she probably thinks, “Yeah, this is a new toy that my mother got especially for me.” Cats are hardworking animals. They love not only tearing toilet paper, but also unwinding the roll, dragging it from room to room. This is, so to speak, a white carpet just for you.
2. Damaged toys.
A furry pet can wreak havoc on toys: pulling out a catnip toy mouse filler and dragging it around the room, gouging out the eyes of a toy bird, decorating small rubber balls with teeth marks, chewing on a stuffed hedgehog and – icing on the cake – sending him swimming in his bowl with water. It’s good if the cat has toys to keep busy while you’re away. But on these toys she will take out all her irritation – the cat is bored.
3. Stealing food.
Real life story: while the owners of the cat were not at home, she jumped on the refrigerator, stole a package of potato chips and hid them under the bed to feast on at night. Cats also open kitchen cupboards, helping themselves along the way to whatever they can find, such as dry biscuits or catnip, which you wanted to give her when you get home. And since cats don’t clean up after themselves, you’ll see torn packages and food crumbs everywhere. So, if you suspect that your cat is a thief, it’s not enough to just put food away. Cats love to climb on top, so if you put food on the refrigerator, it does not stop them, but, on the contrary, provokes them.
4. Damage to furniture.
Your cat loves your comfortable couch just as much as you do. But that doesn’t stop her from tearing him with her claws. After all, if the owner loves something, the cat spoils exactly that (or so it seems)! Your furry pet knows that this way will immediately attract your attention. If a cat scratches the rug and furniture, she simply says this: “If you hadn’t gone to work today, nothing would have happened to these cute little things.” From scratching inappropriate things for this pet can be weaned with the help of training and scratching posts, where she can give vent to emotions. By the way, you can make a scratching post yourself.
5. Overturning of various objects.
Another feline way to draw attention to yourself is to drop everything you can reach. These are glasses (especially full ones), picture frames, laptops or tablets, valuable ceramics. For cats, this is a kind of game – it is the game that they play in your absence. Cats love to climb high and drop things as they fall, so they will find your favorite figurine and smash it. They’ll take care of it when you’re not at home. Just imagine what can be happening in your apartment at this time! Therefore, everything that you consider valuable, it is better to hide it securely. Then neither things nor the cat will suffer.
Also, don’t forget that cats don’t understand punishment. Never yell at your pet and do not punish her: she cannot connect her actions with punishment. Because of the punishment, she will only mess up more. She may even have trouble urinating due to stress.
Whether your furry friend likes it or not, you can’t stay at home all the time. Therefore, before returning home, it is better to mentally prepare for the mess that a cat can make in your absence. But remember, this is how she shows you her love! A reciprocal feeling on your part and a little training will help prevent a mess in the house.
