What commands are needed to safely enter a cafe with a dog?
Many of us would like to go to a cafe with pets, especially since now there are more and more “dog-friendly” establishments. But at the same time, I want to feel calm and not blush for the pet’s behavior. What commands are needed to safely enter a cafe with a dog?
First of all, you need to teach the dog the commands “Near”, “Sit” and “Lie down”. It does not have to be the “normative” execution of commands required in competition. It is enough if the dog, on command, will stay near you on a loose leash and take the desired position (for example, sit down or lie down near your chair).
Another essential skill is patience. This, again, is not about normative restraint, when the dog must maintain a certain position and not move. Just this is not a very suitable option for a cafe, because the dog will be uncomfortable for a long wait in suspense. It is important that the dog can lie quietly next to your table for the entire time that you are in the cafe, while he can change his position (for example, lie down on his side, put his head on his paws, or fall on his hip if he wants to). Then the dog will be comfortable, and you will not have to constantly pull her by the leash and react to the indignant glances or remarks of other visitors.
It’s great if you have taught your dog to relax in any conditions. Then she will not be nervous and whine, even if keeping one position, but will be able to calmly stretch out on the floor and doze while you drink your coffee.
You can teach your pet all these simple wisdoms with the help of a trainer or on your own, including using our video courses on training dogs using the method of positive reinforcement.
