What aquarium fish can be kept in a glass jar

A glass jar is the same tank as an aquarium, only relatively small, therefore, in an ordinary jar, for example, a three-liter one, only very tiny and unpretentious fish can live, such as Guppies, some other viviparous, Killy fish, Fighting fish, and also catfish Corridor. It is allowed to keep one goldfish.

The “small” category also includes many other species of suitable size from among the characins and cyprinids (zebrafish, tetras, neons, barbs, etc.). However, keeping them in banks is not worth it, as they require a lot of space to swim.

You can pick up small fish in the “Fish” section using a convenient filter. Just set the desired size and / or any other parameters and click the “Search” button.

What to consider when keeping fish in a glass jar

The classic glass jar has a cylindrical shape, where height prevails over width, and a narrower neck. All this prevents the circulation of water, from which decay products of organic matter (excrement, food debris) can accumulate in the lower layers and a lack of dissolved oxygen can be observed. The latter is also facilitated by the small surface area of the water.

What to consider when growing aquarium plants in a glass jar

Plants certainly balance the biological system. The roots contribute to the processing of organic matter into safer compounds, and the leaves produce oxygen. However, the latter also has a backlash. At night, plants, on the contrary, absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide. If there are a lot of them, then in the conditions of a glass jar, aquarium fish can suffocate overnight.

Another potential problem is related to the normal growth of the plants themselves and is primarily related to lighting. For a jar, only unpretentious and shade-loving plants, mosses or ferns should be selected, since they will receive light from a room light source, and the lighting regime will be irregular. In addition, these aquatic plants can be content with a minimum set of minerals, the deficiency of which is inevitable in a glass jar.

You can choose the necessary plants in the “Aquarium Plants” section. Use the filter to set the parameters you need and click the “Search” button.
