tiger hygrophila
Tiger hygrophila, scientific name Hygrophila sp. Tiger. By the time the publication was being prepared, this plant did not have an exact species affiliation, as symbolized by the prefix “sp.”. According to some researchers, it may be a variety (artificial or natural) of Hygrophila multi-seeded.
It got its name because of the pattern on the surface of the leaves – contrasting veins-stripes that stand out against the general lighter background. Grows up to 20 cm in height. Forms an upright stem and a well-developed root system. Leaves are long and linear. Outwardly, it is almost identical to Hygrophila “Brave”, but differs in narrower leaves and a rounded tip of the leaves. The color depends on the light conditions and the mineral composition of the soil. In bright light and nutrient-rich soil, red-brown hues appear. However, they are characteristic only for the underwater form. In the air, the leaves are uniform green.
Tiger hygrophila is an undemanding and hardy plant that can tolerate a wide range of conditions. It can grow both in a warm aquarium and in a backyard pond.
