Do you remember the story of E. Setton-Thompson “Royal Analostanka” about a cat that, after being sold, returned home over and over again? Cats are famous for their ability to find their way home. Sometimes they make incredible journeys to return to their “home”.
However, the incredible journeys made by cats can be divided into two types.
The first is when a cat is stolen or sold to another owner, the owners move to a new house or lose their purr many kilometers from their home. In this case, the difficulty is to find your way home in an unfamiliar area. And although the task may seem impossible to us humans, nevertheless, many cases are known when cats returned to familiar places. One of the explanations for this ability of cats to find their way to their home is the sensitivity of these animals to the Earth’s magnetic field.
It is more difficult to explain the second kind of extraordinary travels of cats. It happens that the owners move to a new house, and for one reason or another, the cat is left in the same place. However, some purrs manage to find owners in a new place. But in this case, in order to reunite with the owners again, the cat needs not only to travel through an unfamiliar area, but also in a seemingly unknown direction! This ability seems inexplicable.
Nevertheless, the researchers took up the study of such cases. Moreover, in order to avoid confusion when a cat left in the old house could be mistaken for a similar cat that accidentally appeared in the new owner’s house, the scientists insisted that only the travels of those cats that had very obvious differences from their relatives in appearance or behavior were taken into account.
The results of the study were so impressive that Duke University scientist Joseph Rhine even coined the term “psi-trailing” to describe the animals’ ability to find lost owners.
One such case was described by Duke University scientists Joseph Rhine and Sara Feather. Louisiana cat Dandy got lost when his owner’s family moved to Texas. The owners even returned to their former home in the hope of finding a pet, but the cat was gone. But five months later, when the family settled in Texas, the cat suddenly appeared there – in the courtyard of the school where his mistress taught and her son studied.

Another confirmed case was in a California cat who found owners who moved to Oklahoma 14 months later.
And another cat traveled 2300 miles from New York to California in five months to find an owner.
Not only American cats can boast of such an ability. A cat from France ran away from home to find his owner, who was serving in the army at the time. The cat walked more than 100 kilometers and suddenly appeared on the threshold of the barracks where his man lived.
The famous ethologist, Nobel Prize winner Niko Tinbergen admitted that animals have a sixth sense and wrote that science is not yet able to explain some things, but it is quite possible that extrasensory abilities are inherent in living beings.
However, even more impressive than the ability to find the way seems to be the incredible tenacity of cats. In order to find a loved one, they are ready to leave their homes, go on a journey full of dangers, and achieve their own. Still, cat love is a terrible force!
