The cat marks: what to do?
If the cat leaves odorous marks on trees and fences, you can put up with it. But what if the cat marks sofas, armchairs, corners and curtains?
Why does the cat mark at home?
Marking is a behavior common to all cats in nature. At home, it is mostly unneutered cats who sin with this – when such a cat marks, he not only confirms the rights to the territory, but also declares his sexual intentions. An unsterilized cat most often sprays everything with a strong (and also caustic) stream of urine , which can “reach out”: from furniture to wallpaper on the walls. Particularly attractive are places where the cat himself or other cats have set marks before. The most unpleasant thing is that it is almost impossible to drown out or completely eliminate such marks. But few owners are willing to live, constantly inhaling this amber. Not to mention that the guests will run from your house like crazy.
What to do if the cat marks?
Some sources will suggest that you become the main cat in the house. But it is unlikely that you will like the idea of putting your marks on top of the cat ones. Are you ready for this? In addition, there is a risk that the cat may refuse to give up without a fight, and you will mark the apartment in a circle non-stop. How do you like this perspective? 🙂 Speaking seriously, the only known way to get rid of the manifestations of this rather unpleasant behavior for us is castration. This will eliminate the very reason why the cat leaves marks – after all, he does not need to communicate his sexual intentions anymore.
