thai perennial
Thailand peristololium, scientific name Myriophyllum tetrandrum. The plant is native to Southeast Asia. The natural habitat extends over vast areas from India, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. It occurs in shallow water at a depth of up to 2 meters in sections of rivers with slow currents, as well as in swamps and lakes.
It forms a tall erect red-brown stem, growing up to 30–40 cm. The leaves are bright green in color, resembling a feather in shape – a central vein with numerous needle-like fragments extending from it.
Although the Thai perennial is able to grow successfully in a variety of environments, optimal conditions are achieved in mildly alkaline water, nutrient soil and high light levels. In other conditions, the reddish hues on the stem disappear.
Grows fast. Regular pruning required. Due to its size in a small aquarium, it is desirable to place it along the back wall. It looks most impressive in groups rather than a single plant.
