temperature shock
Fish can suffer from sudden changes in temperature, as well as from too cold or warm water. The most obvious symptoms are noticeable in case of hypothermia.
The fish become lethargic, “sleepy”, lose their appetite and as a result can die from impaired body functions. In the case of very warm water, first of all, signs of oxygen starvation are observed, since with an increase in water temperature, the oxygen content in it drops sharply. Temperature fluctuations are primarily associated with the operation of the aquarium heater (broken or not warm enough), or with natural heating in very hot weather.
The strongest blow to the well-being of fish also causes a sharp change in temperature by 5 or more degrees at once, in which case it can simply float to the top with its belly and sink to the bottom. This happens during water changes when the temperature of the fresh water added is significantly different from the temperature in the aquarium.
Treatment
Subcooling is corrected by adjusting the heater, adding another if necessary. The case of overheating is more complicated. You can buy special equipment for cooling the aquarium, but the main problem is the price. A cheaper way is to add plastic bags or bottles filled with cold water, which will float on the surface, gradually absorbing heat. Periodically require updates. The main thing is not to overdo it and not overcool the aquarium.
