Staurogyne Stolonifera
Staurogyne stolonifera, scientific name Staurogyne stolonifera. Previously, this plant was referred to as Hygrophila sp. “Rio Araguaia”, which probably refers to the geographical area where it was first collected – the Araguaia River basin in eastern Brazil.
It has been used as an aquarium plant since 2008 in the USA, and already in 2009 it was exported to Europe, where it was identified as one of the Staurogyne species.
In favorable conditions, Staurogyne stolonifera forms a dense bush, consisting of many individual sprouts growing along a creeping rhizome. Stems also tend to grow horizontally. The leaves are elongated narrow lanceolate in shape with somewhat wavy edges. The leaf blade, as a rule, is bent in several planes. Leaf color is green with brownish veins.
The above applies to the underwater form of the plant. In the air, the leaves are noticeably shorter, and the stem is covered with many villi.
For healthy growth, it is necessary to provide nutritious soil. Specialized granular aquarium soil is best suited for this purpose. The lighting is intense, unacceptably long shading. Grows fast. With a lack of nutrients, the sprouts are stretched, the distance between the nodes of the leaves increases and the plant loses its volume.
