Sitnyag needle
Swamp needle, Eleocharis needle or Sitnyag needle, scientific name Eleocharis acicularis. It is widely distributed throughout the world, except for Antarctica. Grows along the banks of stagnant reservoirs (swamps, lakes) or backwaters of rivers. It is a popular aquarium and pond plant due to its hardiness and ability to form dense clumps that provide excellent hiding places for small fish.
The plant has long narrow leaves resembling green fibers / threads, reaching up to 10–20 cm in length. The stem is absent, the leaves grow from a single center, passing into a branched root system. Propagated by the formation of a young sprout from the mother plant. Many shoots are capable of forming a solid green “wall” or “lawn” if the Swamp needle is regularly trimmed.
A wide area of growth predetermined relatively low requirements for the maintenance of this plant. It is able to adapt to a wide range of temperatures, including very cold water. Not demanding on the composition of the soil. Prefers a moderate to high light level, so do not plant in the shade and in the corners of the aquarium.
