Singapora cat Hitory

The ancestors of Singaporean cats are street animals that lived in Southeast Asia. Only in the second half of the XX century. American tourists brought cats of this breed from Singapore to their homeland.

Just a year later, Singapore was presented at the exhibition. Despite the fact that Singapore cats appeared in Europe in 1987, this breed is extremely rare in European countries. In Russia, there are also practically no catteries where Singapura cats are bred.

According to statistics, cats of this breed are the smallest of the domesticated ones: the average weight of an adult is only 2-3 kg.

Breed standards vary from country to country. For example, in Singapore itself, a variety of cat colors are recognized, but in the USA, Singapura can only be of two colors: sable-brown or ivory.

Appearance

  • Color: sepia agouti (dark brown ticking on an ivory background).
  • Coat: Fine, very short (mandatory in adulthood), close to the skin.
  • Eyes: large, almond-shaped, set obliquely and fairly wide – at a distance not less than the width of the eye, the color is yellow-green, yellow, green without other color impurities.
  • Tail: thin, tapering towards the end, the tip is dark.

Behavioral features

Seemingly opposite character traits are combined in Singaporean cats: energy and calmness, independence and attachment to the owner. In communication, representatives of this breed do not cause trouble, do not burden. They can be started in families where there are children – cats will play with the kids and lie quietly next to them when the child is sleeping.

Singapura cats are known for their high curiosity, so care must be taken to ensure that they do not get in trouble by climbing into places where they do not belong.

Singapuras are very clean, so there will be no difficulties with accustoming them to the tray.

Singapora cat Health and care

The coat of Singaporean cats is very short and without undercoat, so it is easy to care for it. True, it is advisable to comb it daily, then the cat’s fur will be smooth and shiny. Singapuras are practically omnivorous – they even eat cabbage with pleasure. You can feed them with any food convenient for the owner: both specialized feeds and natural products – these cats do not need to follow a specialized diet.

The ancestors of the Singapura – street cats – provided representatives of the breed with excellent health. At first glance, Singaporean cats are slender, but this does not affect their resistance to disease. There are no breed-specific diseases. To fully care for the health of Singaporean cats, it is enough just to get vaccinated on time and make sure that they do not catch a cold. Singapura cats are thermophilic (the climate of their native country affects), so you need to exclude them from being in a draft or sitting for a long time on a cold windowsill.
