Red Shayne, a cross between an Irish draft horse and an English Thoroughbred, died at the age of 51. The horse enjoyed his retirement at the stables in Essex, walking for 5 hours in the fresh air, despite a mild form of arthritis. Thanks to a high-calorie diet (including beets, chaff and alfalfa granules, and cabbage as a treat) and four meals a day, Shayne looked great until the end of his days.

The staff of the stable decided to euthanize Shaynewhen he couldn’t get to his feet.

“Shayne lived a happy life. We are proud to have had the opportunity to look after him. We will miss you very much, ”commented the death of the horse Sue Barton, who runs the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in Ingatestone, Essex.

One of the reasons for such a long life Shayne, Sue Barton considers the fact that he was never overworked.
