Service dog training
Some owners want to make “service dogs” out of their pets. And are interested in special types of training. What are the features of service dog training?
First of all, it is worth remembering that service dog training consists of 2 parts:
- General obedience.
- Special training.
General obedience is a must for any dog, no matter what special training you then do. And the principles of obedience training are the same for all dogs. However, for example, the specifics of the execution of commands may depend on the type of special training that you choose. So it is better if you know from the very beginning what you will do with the dog in the future.
Further, keep in mind that the special training of service dogs is already varied. It requires different qualities from dogs, and our four-legged friends are trained in a variety of skills. Sometimes these skills contradict each other.
So, special training can prepare a dog for protective service, search, search and rescue, protection of the territory, search for explosives or drugs, rescue work, work as a guide or assistant dog, etc. And, of course, the qualities and skills needed by a guard dog are very different from those needed by a rescuer. Therefore, the training of service dogs cannot be reduced to a single standard.
