Seal point, tabby, blue, red and other colors of Thai cats
The Thai cat is one of the oldest breeds. Mentions of cats similar to modern Thais are found in the manuscripts of Bangkok as far back as the XNUMXth century. What color are they?
The Thai cat can be considered a descendant of another famous breed – the Siamese cat. It was from her that the Thai inherited its characteristic features, although the Thais themselves were first registered outside of Thailand.

External features and character
The eyes of Thai cats are always blue. Even in newly born kittens, their color will certainly be heavenly. Residents of Thailand believe that this eye color is a gift from the gods as a reward for the faithful service of cats, who most often lived at temples and monasteries.
Thai kittens, like Siamese, have an accommodating character and indefatigable curiosity. They are affectionate cats, active, devoted to their family and extremely sociable. They get along well with children as well as other pets.
The color of the representatives of the breed is characterized by several main features:
- contrasting colors;
- a large number of colors and shades;
- dark mask on the muzzle,
- color changes with age.
color point
This cat color is also called “Siamese”. The main color of the coat is white with various shades, and the ears, paws and muzzle with a tail are brown or black. The gene responsible for the Siamese color is recessive, therefore, it appears only if both parents pass it on to the kitten.
Seal point
For pets of this color, the torso is light cream in color. On the muzzle, paws, tail they have brown point zones. Seal point is the most common color among Thai cats.
Blue point
Blue point can be called a diluted version of the seal point color. Its carriers have a coat of cold tones with a bluish tint and points of gray shades.
Chocolate point
In cats with this color, the main tone of the coat is warm, milky, ivory. Points can be chocolate shades of varying degrees of saturation – from light milk chocolate to almost black.
Lil’ Point
Lil point, or “lilac”, is a weaker version of chocolate point. The coat of cats with this color slightly shimmers with a pinkish or lilac color.
Red point
Cats with red dotted color, the main color of the coat varies from pure white to cream. The color of the points can be bright red, almost carrot, yellowish gray, dark red. The paw pads of red point cats are pink.
Cream
Cream point is a genetically weakened version of the red point color. The main tone of the coat of such cats is pastel, light, and cream-colored points.
Cake point
This is a tortoise color, which appears only on the points. It has several matches:
- cream shades on the points are combined with blue;
- redheads are combined with dark, chocolate;
- most often cats with tortie color are girls,
- the location of the spots is unique to each cat.
Tabby Point
The tabby point, or seal tabby and point, is similar to the traditional seal point. The main difference lies in the color of the points – they are not a solid tone, but striped. The tabby point color appeared by crossing a Thai cat with a European Shorthair, so it cannot be called pure. However, it is also recognized by the breed standards.
Tarby point, or tortie tabby point
The unusual color combines the signs of a tortie and a tabby – on the points, the stripes are adjacent to the spots. Usually the colors are combined as follows:
- chocolate with red;
- blue or lilac – with cream.
golden tabby point
The main color of the coat in cats with this color is cream or ivory. Points – a little darker, with golden stripes.
Despite so many colors, they are all variants of the breed standard. It remains only to choose your favorite among the blue-eyed Thais.
