Repair and dog
So, you decided to make changes to the interior of your home and started a renovation. But everything is complicated by the presence of a dog at home. How to combine repair and a dog?
There are a number of rules that will allow the dog to survive the repair as painlessly as possible.
7 rules to help your dog survive the repair more calmly
- Of course, you can move your dog to another place during the repair. For example, to the cottage. But not everyone has this opportunity.
- Set up a quiet, peaceful place for your dog. It is better to accustom a pet to it in advance. As well as the fact that access to certain premises will be limited. If the dog is accustomed to calmly move around the house, and then you abruptly prohibit him in a separate room, he may naturally begin to resent. In this room, you should leave your dog’s favorite things and toys so that she is not bored. And give her long lasting treats.
- Shut off the dog’s access to the premises where the work is being done. This is a security issue. The dog may hurt his paws, eat something harmful, or simply nullify your efforts by walking around with dirty paws where it is completely inappropriate.
- When noisy work is carried out, it is better to remove the dog from the house if it does not respond well to noise. Or provide maximum sound insulation in the room where the dog is located.
- Keep your dog away from hazardous materials, work tools, and places where mold or fungus can grow.
- It is important to take into account the dog’s attitude towards strangers, because repairs often turn an apartment into a courtyard. Depending on the individual characteristics of the pet, a decision is made: either isolate it for the duration of the repair (see paragraph 2), or introduce it to the workers. In any case, the dog should always be able to retire if desired and avoid communication.
- Try, as far as possible, not to change the dog’s daily routine. This will be an additional predictability factor, which means it will reduce anxiety and help you survive the stress associated with inevitable changes.
If during the repair or after it you see that the dog is not coping, do not hesitate to seek help from a specialist working with humane methods. Together with him you will create an anti-stress program for your pet.
