Pompon
The story of where these Goldfish first appeared is not known for certain. However, only two countries are considered as ancestors – Japan and China. The pompom has a characteristic feature in the form of greatly enlarged nasal valves, which are practically not noticeable in the normal state. They look like a kind of growths on the nose, of various sizes and shapes.
It is worth noting that the Pompom is not an independent variety, but rather a feature that can be expressed in one or another type of goldfish. For the purpose of classification, in 1987 it was proposed to divide fish with a similar “decoration” into two large groups. Oranda and its breeding forms (Little Red Riding Hood, Butterflies, etc.) began to be called the Japanese pom-pom. Ranchu and its breeding forms (Water Eyes, Stargazer, etc.) were assigned to Chinese pompoms.
Both groups are currently shipped from China. However, a very specific appearance has led to weak demand and, as a result, limited supply. The fish is rarely found on sale, although it has the same qualities as its relatives: endurance, unpretentiousness, ease of maintenance and good compatibility with other species.
