Perististolist red-stemmed

Red-stem peristolilum, sold in Europe under the trade name Myriophyllum cf. aquaticum “Red Stem”. It is a natural variety of Brazilian Peristololium. Probably comes from the tropical swamps of South America.

Perististolist red-stemmed

It grows on moist substrates along the water’s edge, as well as in shallow water when submerged. Depending on the growing conditions, the appearance of the plant will differ.

In the air, on an upright stem, strongly cut green leaves resembling a feather are formed. The surface is glossy, as if coated with wax, and has water-repellent properties.

Under water, leaf blades become more elegant, fragments of the “feather” become thinner. Outwardly, it resembles another species – the Cinnamon is tail-shaped, but its stem is more densely covered with leaves.

In both cases, the color of the stem takes on a brown-red color that shows up even in moderate light. Whereas in other species of Cinnamon, this only occurs in bright light.

It is considered an unpretentious hardy plant. Perfectly adapts to various conditions, including cool water. Doesn’t need fertilizer. Enough of those substances that are formed during the life of fish.

In favorable conditions, growth rates are high and Peristololium redstem quickly grows beyond the surface of the water. Regular pruning required. When grown in a partially submerged state or on a moist substrate in paludariums, the stems eventually bend under their weight and begin to spread along the ground.
