Pedigree of a dog: how to get documents

What is a dog pedigree
To be sure that you have bought a healthy puppy, want to participate in exhibitions or competitions with him, or to breed the breed in the future, you need a canine pedigree. The certificate of origin of the dog is an official document confirming the complete compliance with the purity of the breed without defects. At the same time, the pedigree is not responsible for the puppy’s predisposition to training or his suitability for service.
Who issues the pedigree and what does it include?
Most Russian kennel clubs are part of the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF). The organization is engaged in registration of mating of thoroughbred dogs, and also issues documents for them. Any dog owner should know how to get a pedigree. To do this, he should contact the RKF office or the kennel club at the place of residence and provide them with the puppy’s metrics. It must be exchanged after 6 months.
From March 1, 2020, it became possible to obtain a pedigree of two types:
Certificate of origin of a single sample in two languages. The document displays three generations of ancestors. The pedigree is used to participate in Russian and foreign competitions and exhibitions, as well as in breeding. With it, you can freely take the dog out of the country to participate in exhibitions.
Certificate of registration of the dog in the All-Russian Unified Pedigree Book. It displays information about only one ancestral tribe. With this pedigree, you can go to national exhibitions, draw up titles within the country.
For puppies born after December 1, 2019, only new pedigrees are issued. The certificate of the Russian Cynological Federation of the old model includes the breed, nickname, color, sex of the dog, information about the owner and breeder, a family tree that includes 3 generations on the paternal and maternal lines with exhibition and working titles, a barcode and a chip number.
What does a dog’s name look like with a pedigree
The full name of the dog consists of a factory prefix with a nickname and is indicated in the metric. The prefix is a kind of brand name for a puppy. It is placed both before and after the nickname. Puppies not born to a breeder or kennel do not receive a prefix. Puppies from the same litter have names that begin with the same letter of the alphabet. If the customer has already named the puppy, entered its name in the metric and the general litter card and turned it in, it will not be possible to change the official name. A dog receives a double name only if there is a pedigree. In other cases, double nicknames are the usual desire of the owners to highlight their pets.
Pedigree Benefits
The certificate is necessary to obtain a permit for mating, registration in the club, participation in official hunting competitions, competitions and exhibitions. With this document, you confirm the puppy’s purebredness and the suitability of his parents for breeding. It is profitable for a breeder to sell a pet at a higher price if its parents have a high rank.
Pedigree Authentication
You can check the authenticity of a dog’s pedigree through the RKF database, as well as through a club, kennel or breeder. You can apply directly to the federation or to the kennel club.
Do all purebred dogs have documents?
Often a purebred dog lives without documents. Often this is associated with buying a puppy from friends or in the bird market. One of the puppy’s parents may not have a pedigree or show grade for breeding, or the dog may not have passed mating tests. It can be considered defective and not allowed to breed. It is possible to draw up a pedigree for a dog from scratch, even if it is not chipped, but in all respects it has a breed. Unrecognized pedigrees with special marks are entered into the VERK (All-Russian Unified Genealogical Book).
Regardless of whether your pet has a pedigree or lives quietly without it, he remains your true friend and companion until the end of his life.
