pearl moss
Pearl moss, scientific name Heteroscyphus zollingeri. Despite the name, it does not belong to mosses, but is a fern. The mistake is due to the fact that several plants are on sale under the same name, most of which are mosses. Of the variety of species represented, Heteroscyphus zollingeri was isolated only in 1998.
For example, in many sources, the name “Pearl Moss” is widely used as a synonym for Blepharostomy (Blepharostoma trichophyllum), which is not really represented in the aquarium hobby. In 2011, it was found that another similar species of Solenostoma Moss (Solenost tetramagonum) was supplied instead.
In nature, this fern is found in tropical Southeast Asia and Australia. It grows everywhere in wet places near water bodies, fixing on stones, snags and other surfaces. Able to grow completely submerged in water, thanks to which it can be used as an aquarium plant.
Unpretentious, normal growth will require some kind of rough surface. If the Pearl Moss is not fixed, then it remains to float on the surface, forming loose clusters. But it is worth remembering that in a closed tank it will certainly be next to the side wall, and if equipment is located on it, for example, a filter, then this will be a great place to fix it. It is better to fix the fern by hand than he does it himself. Growing in an aquarium is simple, soft slightly acidic water is required. Light level doesn’t matter. Maintaining fertilizers is not required, the organics that the fish produce will be more than enough.
