Neighbors of turtles in the aquaterrarium
FISH
Small turtles are usually not dangerous for various types of fish, but adults often perceive small fish as food, so the number of fish will gradually decrease. Non-aggressive turtles (all except trionix, matamata, caiman, vulture) can be settled together with large or aggressive fish: American cichlids, large barbs, koi, carps, catfish. This is best done in large ponds or pools. Even if an aquatic turtle prefers vegetable food or does not eat fish, nothing will prevent it from biting the fins of its neighbors swimming nearby.
PLANTSSmall water turtles do not touch aquarium plants, but with age they begin to show great interest in them. Therefore, planting them in a pond with turtles is not worth it. When decorating an aquaterrarium, it is better to use driftwood, stones and artificial plants. However, some species of turtles (for example, Caspian ones) have a rather calm disposition and do not show much interest in plants.
TURTLEThe best company for non-aggressive turtles are other non-aggressive turtles of the same size and species. However, it is possible to keep a red-eared turtle with a marsh, Caspian, geographical, etc., but it is impossible with Trionix, Caiman, Vulture. At the same time, animals must be separately quarantined, not get sick and not aggressive towards neighbors, and they must also have approximately the same conditions of detention (temperature, ultraviolet, water pH). It is better not to add any animals to exotic and rare species of turtles, including turtles of other species, as they can be carriers of dangerous diseases or parasites.
OTHER REPTILES, AMPHIBIANS
You should not keep turtles with frogs, toads, newts, salamanders, clams, snails, lizards, snakes and crocodiles. Some of them can be eaten, and some can cause the death of turtles.
