Mikrantemum shady

Shady mikrantemum, scientific name Micranthemum umbrosum. It is widely distributed in most of the southeastern United States from Texas to Florida and Virginia, as well as in parts of Central and South America. It occurs everywhere in shallow water along the banks of stagnant reservoirs (lakes, swamps, ditches, ponds).

Outwardly similar to another closely related species Mikrantemum Monte Carlo. Both plants form long creeping stems, on which are numerous rounded leaves, two on each whorl. In favorable conditions, many side shoots are formed, growing from the axils of the leaves.

Reproduction is very simple. Each shoot can be separated and placed in the ground. Soon, it will take root and turn into a young sprout. Pruning shortens the stem. The separated fragment can also be turned into a new plant by planting in the ground.

Relatively easy to care for, if the main condition is met – a high level of lighting. With a lack of light, the lower leaves wither. They may have holes. The stem becomes brittle and breaks. Otherwise, Mikrantemum shady does not need to create special conditions. Perfectly adapts to a wide range of temperatures and is not picky about the composition of the soil.
