Microsorum crocodile
Microsorum crocodile, scientific name Microsorum pteropus, variety “Philippine”. It is one of the many forms of the Thai fern. In nature, it grows on the island of Panay (Philippines) in Southeast Asia. It occurs mainly in the coastal zone and brackish estuaries of rivers. The ornamental variety was bred in the nursery of aquarium plants Tropica (Denmark).
The fern forms a large dense bush up to 30 cm high, which should be taken into account when placed in an aquarium. The leaves have a textured surface reminiscent of crocodile skin, which is how the plant got its name.
Growth requirements are roughly the same as the Thailand Fern. Microsorum crocodile is relatively easy to maintain, not picky about the level of lighting, able to grow in cool water and low nutrient concentrations. However, it is sensitive to the hydrochemical composition of water. Optimum conditions are achieved with a hardness of 10°dGH and a pH of 6. Excellent for brackish aquariums. In soft water, black spots appear on the leaves, gradually turning into holes.
Refers to epiphytes. It is advisable to place on a snag or similar surface, previously secured with a fishing line or other device. When the roots begin to securely hold the fern, the mount can be removed.
In some cases, it is permissible to place on the surface of rocky soil, pressing the roots with pebbles. But at the same time, you can not fall asleep creeping stem.
