Meta Corridor
Corydoras (catfish) Meta, Bandit Cory or Catfish “Black Mask”, scientific name Corydoras metae, belongs to the Callichthyidae family. Endemic to the Meta River basin, it is a left tributary of the Orinoco, which flows through Colombia and Venezuela. It lives in regions with a slow current, as well as in backwaters and flooded areas of the forest among the roots, fallen branches of trees, and coastal vegetation.
Description
Adult individuals reach a length of 4–5 cm. A characteristic feature in the body pattern is a dark stripe stretching along the back from the base of the dorsal fin to the tail, and dark strokes on the head passing through the eyes, which look like a black mask. The latter is reflected in one of the popular names of this species. Although in fairness it should be noted that such “masks” are characteristic of many Koridoos. The coloration and pattern of the body is similar to the Arched Corydoras, which is why they are often confused.
