Of course, food is not a cure, but only an addition to it. Depending on the problem, there are various options.

You can, of course, simply reduce portions of regular food by half or three times. But, firstly, this is inhumane: the poor pet will toil, left with an empty stomach. Secondly, he can toil very loudly and stubbornly, and there will definitely be one of the family members who cannot stand the cat’s screams and fill the bowl. It is better to buy a low-calorie food with a reduced energy value.

In order for the animal to eat faster and gain weight, or to bounce back faster after surgery, there are foods with a high calorie content. As a rule, they are all soft: there are pates and mousses. These textures are easier to digest and easier to force-feed if the cat is not yet eating on its own.

There are specialized feeds with the addition of glucosamine and chondroitin, which help to increase the volume of interarticular fluid. And there are low-calorie foods: the heavier the animal, the greater the load on its sore joints.

For skin and hair problems

Special feeds are hypoallergenic and enriched with vitamins A and E, as well as unsaturated fatty acids.

For liver diseases

The percentage of fats in the feed is reduced, but the proportion of potassium and other minerals is increased.

With diseases of the gastrointestinal tract

The food is low in fat. In order not to suffer calorie content, manufacturers add protein, and to stimulate the digestive tract, they increase the content of digestible fiber. There are foods for cats with sensitive digestion. They contain hypoallergenic ingredients.

For kidney disease

Careful selection of food is required. There are several types of renal feeds with different concentrations of phosphorus and proteins. A mistake can lead to complications of the disease and even death of the animal.

With urolithiasis

As in the previous version, it is extremely important to know what type of stones are formed in the animal. Then the appropriate food is selected (for acidification or for alkalization of urine). It prevents the formation of new stones and causes the dissolution of existing ones. Also in the feed is a reduced content of minerals and there are diuretic additives.

Do not immediately buy a large package of food – it may not suit your cat, and specialized foods are more expensive than regular ones.

If the cat refuses to eat the new food, then first mix it with the old one or add a little canned food.
