Marvari – horses with strange ears!
These unusual horses are bred in the Indian province of Marwari. Since this breed is very ancient, Marwar horses are mentioned in Indian folklore and sacred books. These are the horses that kings and famous warriors rode.
Marvari – horses with strange ears!
Marvarian horses have a well-developed orientation – they know well where their home is, being many kilometers away from it. In India, these horses are famous for saving the lives of many riders who got lost in the desert.

In addition, Marwaris have excellent hearing, so Marwaris are able to distinguish sounds much faster than horses of other breeds.

Characteristics of the breed

Marwari horses are extremely strong and hardy. Thin skin allows them to be without water for a long time and endure heat at a walk. Marwar horses are capable of surviving in harsh desert conditions by eating the meager food that can be found in the sands. Marwari horses are almost never shod.

Another feature of this breed is that the horse’s skeleton is designed so that the horse’s shoulders are at a smaller angle relative to the legs, which in turn lightens the front of the horse and allows it to move quickly and naturally on the sand. With such a structure of the shoulder, the Marwari is much easier to pull the legs out of deep sand, however, their speed qualities are reduced. But on the other hand, the horse’s move becomes very soft and comfortable for the rider.

The main feature of Marwari horses is their ears – they are curved inward and sometimes the tips of the ears are connected. This structure of the ears gives a very unusual silhouette to the whole horse. It is believed that such ears are the result of the addition of Arabian blood when breeding the breed. But despite the compactness of the body, nature endowed the Marwari with long and graceful legs, so that when moving through deep sands, they would not touch the hot sand with their stomachs.

The average height at the withers is 14, 5 – 15 palms. The suits are bay, karak, brown, and piebald ones are also found.

By the way, these horses can sometimes be seen in notorious Indian films!
