Malayan fern
Malayan fern or Selaginella, scientific name Selaginella willdenowii. The plant is native to the tropics and subtropics of Southeast Asia. The natural habitat extends over the vast expanses of the Sunda archipelago. It is found everywhere in the wet litter of rainforests.
Often erroneously reported as an aquarium plant, indicating its relationship to the Thai fern. In fact, it does not belong to a fern, although this word is present in the name, but belongs to the ancient Selaginellaceae family, of which it is the only surviving representative.
It is more of a houseplant than an aquarium plant. Although in nature it is often found partially submerged in water, but this is of a periodic seasonal nature. The Malayan fern is able to stay under water for a long time (several months), but eventually the plant dies in this state. Suitable for paludariums.
