Lyre-shaped core

Lyre-shaped core or Japanese core, scientific name Cardamine lyrata. Also known as Japanese cress. This marsh plant is native to East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, the Russian Far East), and is found everywhere along the banks of reservoirs.

The plant grows into dense clusters – bushes. The stem is thin, creeping, weakly branching, small (up to 5 cm.) light green leaves on long petioles. Leaf size varies with temperature. Cool water below 20°C promotes the formation of large leaf blades, while at temperatures above 24°C the leaves become very small. An extensive root system allows it to take root in loose soil, as well as on the surface of rough stones, snags. Short roots grow on the stem, with the help of which the plant clings to any surface and allows it to grow vertically, including through thickets of other plants, absorbing them over time. In favorable conditions, it reaches a height of up to 70 cm.

The Japanese core is considered an unpretentious plant, it can acclimatize to cold water, does not need nutrient soil, and can grow actively without the introduction of carbon dioxide. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the level of illumination, you need a bright light source. Reproduction is simple, it is enough to separate part of the stem and plant it in the ground, soon young roots will begin to move away from it.
