Ludwigia “Super Red”
Ludwigia “Super Red”, scientific name Ludwigia palustris, variety “Super Red”. It is one of the varieties of Ludwigia marsh. The exact origin is unknown, probably first appeared in the nurseries of Southeast Asia. Since 2011, it has become available to aquarists from Europe and America.
The plant fully justifies its name. Underwater leaves have rich dark red hues that appear even in moderate light conditions, while in common Ludwigia bog, they turn orange-red only in bright light.
In favorable conditions, it grows up to 20-50 cm in height. The leaflets are 1,5 to 2,2 cm long and 1,6 cm wide. The color of the leaves resembles another variety – Ludwigia Rubin, which is why they are often confused. Ludwigia “Super Red” can be distinguished by the smaller size of the leaf blades and their arrangement on the stem – two on each whorl.
The content is simple. It is recommended to provide soft nutrient soil or use special aquarium soil. Any lighting, but not too dim. The hydrochemical composition of water is not significant.
It grows quickly and forms many side shoots, so one sprout quickly turns into a dense bush. It is permissible to prune the stem to shorten and thin out the thickets.
