Ludwigia Pantanal
Ludwigia Pantanal, scientific name Ludwigia inclinata var. Verticillata ‘Pantanal’. It comes from South America from a vast swampy region in southwestern Brazil known as the Pantanal. It grows everywhere along the banks of rivers, lakes, swamps on wet substrates, as well as in shallow water completely submerged in water.
In the air, it is not much different from numerous green grasses with green oval leaves. But under water, Ludwigia Pantanal is transformed. Numerous long narrow leaves of pink or red color develop on a tall erect stem.
Like other related species, for example, Ludwigia Cuba or Ludwigia Araguaia, it is demanding on growth conditions. It is important to provide a high level of illumination and a concentration of carbon dioxide of 25–30 mg/l. The content of nitrates and phosphates should not fall below 15 mg/l and 1–2 mg/l, respectively. Iron directly affects the color of the leaves, a lack of a trace element leads to tarnishing and a decrease in size. The hydrochemical composition of water must be maintained at low pH and dGH. It is advisable to use a special aquarium soil of high acidity based on peat.
It is considered very difficult to grow, so it is not recommended for beginner aquarists.
