Ludwigia
Ludwigia, the scientific name of the genus Ludwigia. They are popular aquarium plants. Many species have beautiful orange, red, pink or purple leaves and are prized in professional aquascaping. In addition, they are relatively unpretentious, grow quickly and are easy to reproduce.
In nature, they are found on all continents, with the exception of Antarctica, but mainly American species are used in aquariums. They grow along the banks of backwaters of rivers, swamps and lakes, grow along the water’s edge and in a completely submerged state.
Due to the ability to be equally successful in the air and water environment, Ludwigia can be used in paludariums on wet substrates. However, they look most impressive under water, where their main feature is manifested – the bright color of the leaves.
Content requirements vary by species. Some varieties perfectly manage those substances that are naturally formed during the life of fish. Can grow over a wide range of temperatures and pH/dGH values. Others, on the contrary, need regular feeding, constant monitoring of the concentration of minerals and are very sensitive to fluctuations in the hydrochemical composition of water and temperatures. More detailed information can be found in the description of a particular type.
