Lindernia rotundifolia
Lindernia rotundifolia, scientific name Lindernia rotundifolia. It grows in freshwater reservoirs with a weak current: swamps, shallow lakes, backwaters of rivers. Widely distributed in the tropical zone of Southeast Asia and Africa. The presence of the same species on different continents is explained by the fact that the plant was brought to one of them artificially, although it is not known where exactly – to Asia or to the “Black” mainland. Lindernia has now spread to South America thanks to aquarists.
The plant reaches up to 30 cm in height and has rounded small leaves, two on each tier. The leaf pattern is striped due to yellowish veins and is somewhat reminiscent of the pattern of watermelons. The root system is weak, so growing in aquariums with moderate water movement is problematic. Grows submerged, when reaching the surface, the above-water shoots can form spotted flowers.
Due to its modest size, Lindernia round-leaved can be planted in small aquariums. It is considered a rather capricious plant. Needs soft substrates and grows in slightly acidic water of low hardness, but is able to withstand significant temperature changes.
