Types of Aquarium Plants

Lindernia red

Lindernia Indian or Lindernia red, scientific name Lindernia sp. India. Presumably, the plant comes from the Hindustan peninsula (territory of India). Became popular in the aquarium trade among amateurs in the United States, from where it came to Europe.

The plant forms dense thickets of low (up to 12 cm) erect, weakly branching shoots. Outwardly similar to Lindernia round-leaved, having similar rounded or oval leaves, located on the stem in pairs, opposite each other. Lindernia Indian differs from other related species in reddish or purple leaves. Due to its compactness it can be used in small aquariums.

It is considered a demanding plant and is not recommended for beginner aquarists. It is necessary to provide a high level of lighting, which can be a problem in large deep aquariums. As a substrate, it is necessary to use special aquarium soil rich in iron. Lighting and the trace element iron directly affect the shade of the leaves. The introduction of carbon dioxide is mandatory, which contributes to the set of plant mass.
