Lileopsis Mauritius
Lileopsis Mauritius, scientific name Lilaeopsis mauritiana. Endemic to the island of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar. It was first collected in 1992 by Holger Windeløv, the future founder of Tropica, now one of the largest suppliers of aquarium plants. Since 1995, it has been available for sale in Europe.
Outwardly, it resembles the well-known Lileopsis brazilian species, but unlike it, it has narrower leaves with a rounded cross section. The leaves grow directly from the creeping rhizome, forming a solid green “carpet” under favorable conditions. The height of the plant and the distance between the nodes of the leaves on the rhizome depends on the lighting. The more light, the lower and denser the thickets.
Makes relatively low requirements for its growth, however, it is important to provide a good level of lighting and nutritious soil. Shading by other large plants should be avoided. Can be used both in aquariums in the foreground and on wet paludarium substrates. Excessively overgrown thickets can be reduced by cutting the rhizome.
