Lileopsis caroline
Lileopsis caroline, scientific name Lilaeopsis carolinensis. In nature, this plant is widely distributed in North America and in some regions of South America. Introduced to Europe, where it spread throughout Spain and Portugal. It grows in shallow water along the banks of rivers, streams and lakes. It is not uncommon to see it in brackish waters.
In the aquarium trade, another closely related species, Lileopsis brazilian, is better known. Outwardly, both plants are similar when under water. They form low-growing herbaceous thickets with a creeping rhizome, on each node of which 2–3 green leaves grow. The leaves are erect, round in cross section at the base, but flatten towards the tip. In the air, it differs from other Lileopsis in height, reaching up to 20 cm.
For normal growth, nutrient soil is required. It is advisable to use special aquarium soil. Prefers moderate lighting, although it can tolerate some shading. Due to its size it is used in small aquariums. In large tanks, it is advisable to place it in the foreground.
