Leopard catfish
The leopard catfish or the Three-banded Corydoras catfish, scientific name Corydoras trilineatus, belongs to the Callichthyidae family. It originates from the Amazon River basin from Colombia, Peru and Brazil, as well as in the coastal river systems of Suriname. Prefers sluggish streams and channels of larger rivers, backwaters. During the rainy season, it swims to flooded areas of the forest.
Description
Adult individuals reach a length of about 5 cm. The main color of the body is light with a dark pattern resembling a leopard pattern. The fins and tail have a similar pattern, and there is a large black spot on the dorsal fin. Three parallel stripes stretch along the sides of the body – 2 white and one dark between them. Sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed, males differ from females in a more saturated color and a large spot on the fin.
