Lagenandra ovoid
Lagenandra ovoid, scientific name Lagenandra ovata. Occurs from the southwestern tip of the Hindustan peninsula and the island of Sri Lanka. It grows everywhere in wet places along the banks of rivers, lakes, swamps and other bodies of water. During the rainy season, they are under water or partially flooded for a long time.
The plant is quite large and can grow up to one meter in height. Forms long linear leaves on massive petioles. In the air, it forms an arrow, on which a massive pink flower appears, resembling a vessel in the form of a jug.
In nature, it reproduces by seeds and side shoots. The second method is most common when grown in an artificial environment. As soon as the young sprout has roots, it can be separated from the mother plant. Lagenandra ovoid is also propagated by dividing the rhizome into two parts, but this method is recommended for beginner aquarists.
Due to its size it is used only in large aquariums in the background. Cultivation is simple. For healthy growth, it is enough to provide nutritious soil and soft water. The level of illumination does not matter.
