Kladofora spherical
Cladophora spherical or green ball/ball algae. For a long time it was known as Cladophora aegagropila. However, recent studies have shown that this algae belongs to a different family, so the scientific name has also changed, now it is Aegagropila linnaei. It should be noted that the old name
Algae is widespread in the northern hemisphere – from Europe to Asia, from northern latitudes to the tropics. Found in both fresh and brackish waters. Cladophora spherical, as the name implies, forms stable spherical clusters of green color up to 12 cm in diameter, although in nature they grow up to 20 cm. Such a huge habitat determined the ability of this algae to adapt to various conditions. It can grow in an aquarium at any temperature and light level, the hydrochemical composition of the water also does not matter much. The aquarium requires little to no maintenance, except that it must be regularly cleaned of small debris (organic residues, uneaten food residues), which often gets stuck on the “fluffy” surface.
