Is it better to feed a ferret: natural food or ready-made rations?
The decision to adopt any pet, be it a small fish or a huge watchdog, always requires a lot of responsibility. When getting a ferret, it should be understood that this pet is a real predator with a strong, stubborn character, and it requires no less attention and dedication than a cat or dog.
By nature, ferrets are extremely active, energetic, very curious and inquisitive. They love to move and play, almost never sit still, and, of course, the key to such an active pastime is high-quality pet nutrition.
Since ferrets are carnivores and in the wild the majority of their diet is made up of rodents and birds, the feeding of ferrets at home should also be based on meat.
Some owners prefer natural food and feed their pets with minced meat from different types of meat, as well as mice and insects, which are specially purchased for this purpose in pet stores or bred on their own, but not all people find this feeding process ethical.
Also, the ferret should receive daily the optimal amount of useful elements necessary for its harmonious development, and it is almost impossible to balance the nutrients and satisfy (and not exceed) the ferret’s daily calorie requirement with natural feeding. Therefore, special ready-made diets for ferrets, in which the content of essential nutrients, vitamins and trace elements is strictly balanced, serve as a good alternative to natural food.
In addition, many ferret food lines include taurine, which has a beneficial effect on the general condition of the body and the functioning of the cardiovascular system. It is important that many researchers often associate the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in ferrets with a lack of taurine in the body. Food enriched with taurine is highly valued in the modern pet market and is actively used by breeders around the world.
Taurine is a proven intracellular osmolyte, which is an important element in the regulation of cell volume and is involved in the work of bile.
As a rule, high-quality balanced feeds fully satisfy the ferret’s daily need for calories, nutrients, vitamins and minerals and help maintain the health, beauty, well-being and liveliness of a restless pet. Plus, ready-made rations are very convenient, because the owner of the ferret does not have to spend time every day preparing food for his pet.
Of course, with the right approach, the ferret will feel great on the basis of natural feeding, but every responsible owner must ask himself: will he have enough time, desire and energy to provide his pet with quality food every day?
Do not forget that the health of ferrets, like the health of people, largely depends on nutrition, take care of your pets, because they trust you!
