Humpbacked canaries
Why are these canaries called humpbacked? The point is in the unusual posture in which the canary is most of its life: the body of the bird is held almost vertically, while the head arches at a sharp angle. It seems that a beautiful bird bows to the interlocutor. This amazing feature has become the hallmark of the breed variety.
Humpback canaries are among the largest canaries in the world. The body length of birds is up to 22 cm.
The constitution of humpback canaries is compact and proportional, the plumage is smooth and dense, there are no tufts in birds. The color palette is diverse, most often yellow is the main color.
The variety of humpback canaries includes the Belgian, Scottish, Munich, Japanese canary, as well as jiboso.
The standard body length of Belgian canaries is 17 cm. The color can be any, including variegated. The Scottish humpback canary reaches 18 cm in length and can have a variety of colors, with the exception of shades of red. The Munich Canary closely resembles the Scottish Canary, but is slightly smaller and has a tail hanging perpendicularly down or slightly raised, while the Scottish Canary’s tail often extends over the perch.
The Japanese canary is the smallest: its body length is only 11-12 cm, and the color can be anything except red. Jiboso canaries are very similar to Belgian canaries, they have a dense, smooth plumage, but the areas around the eyes, the lower abdomen and lower legs are devoid of plumage.
The life expectancy of humpback canaries in captivity averages 10-12 years.
