How to walk with a dog?
It’s not just how much you walk your dog that matters, but how your walks go. How to walk the dog correctly?
- Learn to be interesting for the dog: engage with him, use positive reinforcement, play, learn tricks (first at home, then outside in a calm environment, and then in different places). In this case, the dog will be more attentive to you, and walks will bring joy to both of you. Try to exercise on each walk, at least 5 to 10 minutes.
- It is better to leave the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of the walk for a calm walk, so that at first the dog focuses on toileting, and at the end calms down a bit.
- Structure the walk, split the time between interactions with other dogs, activities with you and calm walking.
- Control your dog’s attention. Praise your pet when he pays attention to you. At the same time, if the dog constantly walks at your feet, looking into your eyes, on the contrary, encourage him to sniff the grass or trees and generally explore the world around him.
- Try not to be distracted by browsing your Facebook feed, long phone calls, and talking to other dog owners. Still, a walk is a valuable opportunity to spend time with a four-legged friend, and it is important to use it to the maximum.
