Be sure to check your eyes for the presence of mucus, because bacteria primarily feed on it. Mucus is removed with a cotton pad moistened with furacilin. 

 Avoid situations in which the dog can injure the eye.

 In some breeds (for example, pugs or Pekingese) the structure of the skull is special: short nasal passages make them susceptible to respiratory diseases. The Japanese Chin and Pekingese do not have closed eye orbits, so the eyes are not well protected. For such dogs, even the slightest blows to the temple are extremely dangerous: the eyeball may fall out. Their eyes are also often watery, the cause may be the curvature of the nasolacrimal canal, and tears do not enter the nasal cavity, but accumulate in the corners of the eyes. This implies the need to wipe the dog’s eyes every day with wipes soaked in a special lotion or chamomile decoction. 

If you find redness of the conjunctiva, discharge from the eyes (from abundant mucous to purulent), strange formations, prolapse of the third eyelid, or a foreign object in the dog, contact your veterinarian immediately.

 Redness of the eyes may indicate an infection. In this case, antibiotic ointments and drops are used, but you should not prescribe them yourself. Contact your veterinarian and follow his recommendations. 

How to properly clean your dog’s eyes

1. Take 2 wipes or 2 cotton pads.2. Moisten with a special lotion (if necessary, furatsilin) ​​or chamomile decoction.3. Wipe the dog’s eye – from the outer corner to the inner. 

One napkin or cotton pad is used only for one movement and for one eye.

 4. If it was not possible to remove the selection in one movement, take another disc. 5. Continue until the eye is completely clear.
