How to organize a toilet for several cats?
And if there are two or three cats, then the “toilet” problem grows to unimaginable proportions. How to train cats to go where the owner needs, and cope with the organization of the toilet for several animals?
Trays and fillers
Cats are very territorial animals, and when deciding to have multiple pets, you need to keep this in mind. It is best, of course, to have a separate tray for each cat, choosing a filler that a particular pet will like. But this is far from always possible both technically (lack of space) and economically (no money for the regular purchase of several types of filler for trays). Therefore, owners have to ensure that all cats in the house go to one tray.
First, cats should like their litter box. It is worth immediately buying as much as possible roomy. Check empirically – open or closed, since not all cats agree to do their business in the “house”. Secondly, the filler used in the tray should suit both pets. You may have to sort through several types of fillers – from wood to silica gel, before you can find one that everyone likes.
Also, owners will have to take into account that the cat tray will need to be cleaned two to three times more often.
What to do if the cat has gone “to the left”
What to do if one of the cats refused to go to the common tray? Most often, cats are prone to this, which are usually very squeamish. So, the pet ignores the tray and goes to the toilet, for example, in the hallway. We’ll have to buy another tray, fill it with fresh filler and put it at the “crime scene.” The main task at this stage is for the cat to start going to the tray again, for this it is worth washing the place where the pet went with vinegar or a special liquid from the pet store, removing the smell of urine, and putting some of the excrement in a new tray. Seeing that the cat goes to the tray, you need to gradually begin to move it in the direction you need. Take your time! A couple of centimeters a day. Cats don’t like sudden changes. Make sure every time that the cat continues to go to this tray. After bringing the tray closer to the point you need, pour some litter into it from the general cat tray. Gradually put two latrines as close as possible. Wait a while and try to remove the new tray. If everything goes well, then it remains to congratulate yourself on the victory and continue to carefully monitor the cleanliness of cat toilets.
