How to make a cat and a dog become friends?
However, scientists have found that the feline nature is more antagonistic.
Sometimes life under the same roof can be a real challenge even for the most patient of us. When your favorite chair is occupied by someone else and food mysteriously disappears, it’s no wonder the temperature starts to rise. And that’s just for pets.
However, scientists decided to find out for sure what kind of relationship there are cats and dogs that live in the same house. They found that although the cats are more nervous, they have almost no problems with domestic self-assertion, writes The Guardian.
An online survey of 748 homeowners in the UK, US, Australia, Canada and several European countries found that more than 80% of them feel that their pets get along quite well with each other. Only 3% said that their cat and dog can’t stand each other.
However, despite the overall picture of harmony, the survey also revealed that cats are significantly more likely to behave antagonistically. Homeowners told scientists that cats are three times more likely to threaten their canine neighbors and 10 times more likely to injure them during a fight. However, the dogs do not seem to be very concerned about this. More than a fifth of them picked up toys to show the cats. The opposite happened only in 6% of cases.
Scientists from Lincoln University also tried to figure out what needs to be done so that the cat and dog in the house coexist harmoniously. They determined that the success of animal relationships depended on the age at which cats began living with dogs. The sooner this coexistence begins, the better.
