How to choose clothes for cats?

These include, for example, all types of sphinxes (Donskoy, Canadian and Peterbald), as well as Devon Rex and Cornish Rex. However, this is not the only case when a pet needs clothes.

Today you can find an outfit for a cat for every taste. There are all kinds of sweatshirts, and pajamas, and even jackets. In addition to the aesthetic pleasure of the owner, the outfit can also be of practical use – it all depends on the purpose of its purchase.

Why do you need clothes for a cat?

  1. For warmth. Not all members of the cat family have thick hair. Sphynxes and some breeds of the Rex group freeze even at home in cool weather. Owners very often purchase insulated sweaters for such pets.

  2. For guard. The suit can protect the cat not only from cold and bad weather, but also from blood-sucking insects – ticks. In the event that the animal walks on the street (for example, in a park or in a forest).

    In addition, a light cotton suit protects the cat from ultraviolet rays. The same sphinxes easily sunbathe in the sun and can get a sunburn if the owner is inattentive.

  3. For beauty. Of course, we can not say about the aesthetic component. How cute does a pet dressed as a pirate or some superhero look!

  4. For medical purposes. Medical blankets or cotton overalls can help your cat recover from surgery, such as spaying. He will not allow the pet to rip through the seams.

When thinking about buying clothes for a cat, pay attention to a number of rules that will make your choice easier.

Suit selection criteria:

  1. The quality of the fabric. This is the most important criterion. First, the clothes should be made from natural fabrics. Synthetics can be electrified, and chemical dyes and the unusual texture of the fabric can provoke an allergic reaction or irritation. Secondly, it should not smell and rustle. Extraneous smells and sounds will irritate the cat. Finally, thirdly, threads should not stick out of the seams, the seams should be even.

  2. Simple forms. The most innocuous clothing that a cat can put up with is a sweater or blouse. Not every pet will wear pants. As protection from the cold, clothes of a simple cut, without unnecessary details, are suitable. However, it is better to choose a simple style for a decorative costume. Various rhinestones, bows, ropes and pompoms will surely arouse genuine interest in the cat, and without the proper attention of the owner, this can be simply dangerous.

  3. The size. As a rule, manufacturers offer several sizes in the line – from XS to L. The smallest is suitable for kittens aged from six months to a year, and the largest is designed for large adult cats. When choosing a suit, be guided not only by the circumference of the chest and the length of the back of the pet, but also by the style, and even by the fit. If you are buying a costume for a young cat or kitten aged 5-6 months, keep in mind that the pet will grow up.

It is necessary to accustom a pet to clothes from early childhood. This is especially important in the case of representatives of bald breeds, when you know for sure that he will need it in the future. But if you follow a few simple rules, even an adult cat can get used to the costume:

  • To get started, dress your pet in a simple shirt. Some breeders cut holes for paws in normal socks – this is the first costume for kittens;

  • Do not rush, at first, five-minute sessions of wearing clothes are enough. Subsequently, the time is increased;

  • If the cat protests, tries to take off his costume, try to distract her with a game. Treat should be given when she has completely calmed down. This will positively reinforce your pet’s calm behavior.
