How to choose a cat carrier

The cat carrier bag is indispensable when traveling and when traveling to veterinarian. It protects the pet from stress, and the owner guarantees the cleanliness in the car and the safety of transporting the pet, but only if the carrier is chosen correctly and the cat does not dislike it.

Important! For trips abroad, in addition to carrying, you will need a veterinary passport and a veterinary certificate in form No. 1, which can be obtained at a state veterinary clinic.

Cat carrier options

When choosing a carrier, you need to focus on the frequency and duration of trips, as well as the size and nature of the pet:

  • Soft carrying suitable for short trips and cats weighing no more than 3 kg. Such carriers are inexpensive, but also do not last so long.
  • Carrying backpack It has a strong frame and a reinforced bottom. It supports cats weighing up to 6 kg and leaves the owner’s hands free, but is not suitable for long trips – this design almost does not allow the animal to move.
  • Plastic boxes designed for large cats and long trips. Durable construction, reinforced bottom, ventilation holes and a secure closure system – all this provides comfort for the pet and peace of mind for the owner. Some boxes are even equipped with bedding and built-in bowls.
  • Carrying with porthole An active and inquisitive pet will love it. She does not let you get bored on the road – and makes the cat look like an astronaut. And for aggressive or shy animals, it is better to choose a carrier with dense walls and small windows – exclusively for ventilation.

How to train a cat to sit in a carrier

Carrying can become a second home for a pet or enemy number one. A few tips will help direct the cat’s energy in a positive direction:

  • Don’t hide your carrier It should not appear suddenly and symbolize uncertainty and stress for the cat. Put the carrier in a prominent place for at least a few days – and wait until the researcher wakes up in the pet.

  • Create positive associations At the bottom of the carrier, you can put a thing with a smell already native to the cat – her own blanket or your T-shirt. And to consolidate the effect, add some favorite treats or catnip.

  • Don’t hide your intentions Before the trip, in no case do not try to take the pet by surprise and place it in the carrier. It is better to calmly and gently tell the cat about your joint plans – so that she feels safe.

  • Maintain stability After returning home, the carrier must be washed, and not only for hygiene reasons. In this way, you will get rid of odors that are unusual for a cat – this is especially true after visiting a veterinary clinic. Then the carrier must be returned to the place familiar to the cat. And don’t forget your mood. If you’re terrified of an upcoming trip to the vet or a car ride, your cat will feel the same way. Think of it as an adventure – and go on it with your furry friend!
